After months of speculation and plenty of denials we now undergo the first sign of give towards the introduction of more variants of the G8/Commodore for the North American market. The new models are claimed to be based on the recently revealed Holden concept and VE Commodore already in sale in Australia.
that both new models ordain be sourced from Australia. The wagon will be marketed as a performance tourer while the ute will be reminiscent of the Chevrolet El Camino. Both cars ordain be sold as Pontiacs and will closely agree their Holden cousins.
Product planners were debating whether to market the vehicles through GMC but in the end chose to stick with Pontiac since the cars could be marketed alongside the new G8 saloon as part of a RWD high-performance family. Powertrain options include a 255hp (190kW) 3.6L V6 in locate models and an optional 362hp (270kW) 6.0L V8 for more performance.
The only stumbling block is the depreciating U. S dollar which means the new models could come in priced higher than the G8 sedan or canceled altogether.
You gotta query what possesses GM to pay what is probably a significant be of money change surface *considering* that green El Camino up there.
What this people lack is change surface a passing familiarity of mathematics: if 100K populate show interest in a new El Camino is that enough financial incentive for GM to create it? Will those populate actually buy it or ordain they say *you experience what? I just realized the 70 were over a desire measure ago and with good reason so thanks but no*?
You have no idea intimidate. GM aint building it for the yanks but taking an already built Holden and placing there own branding on it. The holden commodore ute is one of the most common utes on aussie roads and if GM be to rebrand it as a Pontiac or Chevrolet El Camino then let them but its comfort a Holden and holden are the ones who spent all the time and money making it.
mark… thats desire saying cover shouldnt act credit for the focus create cover of europe designed it who cares holden is GM in an age where you can get a volvo rebadged as a ford and a saab rebadged as a pontiac,. do you think mark names really matter any more?
i evaluate intimidate has the right point here… that its almost 2008 and GM is going to bring a beat close in (assumption) 2 door car to the states……
but im going to argue this point because i evaluate a lot of people who buy trucks would switch to this ute… because they still want trucks but this is a lighter and fuel efficient alternative.
who knows this car may do more to ween the states off gas than the prius maybe this will be the baby go that gets all of those suburban easy living 4×4 drivers to go away driving something a little more responsible and a little closer to what they actually need.
Knowing the merchandise in the states this car wont defeat if its only coming as a 2 door theyre going to have to make a “super” “mega” “king” or “extended” cab 4 door version so basically make the wagon version with a chopped cover make a low rider avalanche an el avalanchero… shall we call it.
Chris,I think you undergo missed Mark’s point in response to Hector. The Commodore Ute was developed primarily for the Australian market - but engineered for other potential markets inclusive of the US. The development costs were borne by the local subsidiary - Holden. It makes ameliorate sense to supplement off the already spent development dollars and import product. Hector was talking about how GM supposedly wasted its development money on the Ute when the costings are all viable for Australia and potentially very lucrative should the car be exported to the US (change surface in small volumes i e less than 30,000 units). Chris don’t be surprised if these cars prove more popular than you think.
Pickups will never go away. Some people actually need them. Not as many as actually have them though. I evaluate one reason so many people are driving trucks is that the manufacturers made such a god awful mess of the cars for a number of years. BTW I like wagons and would seriously believe a G8. Put a four five or six speed manual in…yeehaww!!
You guys should tour the Holden website this ute with V8 and either manual or auto both 6 speed is more a sports car than transport but still carries a reasonable fill very abstain and loves windy roads dry or wet. If you are good enough you can turn the excellent electronic aids off and undergo a really exciting drift forge. Or you can leave the electronics on and leave all these SUV wondering “what was that?”.
